In 2024, KfW embarked upon a cultural journey to further develop its corporate culture in line with the KfWplus transformation agenda. A variety of different culture processes were already underway in previous years. These had different focus areas, such as cooperation, leadership and risk culture, and together make up the cornerstone of our corporate culture.

The aim of the cultural journey was first to determine where we were at and then to examine where KfW’s culture needed to develop further in order for the business to achieve its strategic goals. More than 300 employees took part in various workshops, in which they scrutinised the corporate culture before developing an effective vision together.

Since November 2024, department-specific workshops have been held, in which employees actively develop measures for the further cultural development of KfW. The aim is to create a culture that is able to overcome the challenges of today’s times and in which it is a pleasure to work together.

KfW has a long tradition of developing and promoting fresh talent through sandwich degree training and study as well as trainee programmes. In 2024, the promotion of fresh talent was an important focus area. August 2024 saw an exceptionally large intake at KfW, with 57 trainees and sandwich degree students embarking on their careers with us.

There are more than 10 different professional and specialist areas on offer. As at the end of the financial year, 220 junior members of staff along with older graduates and current trainees were employed in KfW's trainee programmes. Compared to the previous year, this represents growth of 23%.

In addition to quantitative growth, the continuous further development of the quality of our programmes is a relevant topic. In the summer of 2024, a survey targeted at junior members of staff was carried out for the first time, in which impressions and feedback were collected from them. The results are very positive and are a testament to the overall high quality of KfW’s training programmes. At the same time, they provide a good basis for entering into a more in-depth dialogue on individual topics and for the continuous further development of our products and offerings.

As part of the “Employer Positioning” project, KfW examined the current pension commitment for market conformity and adjusted it accordingly. In addition to the adjustment of the contribution formula, a capitalisation option (option to pay the pension as a lifelong pension or as a capital amount) was introduced. A greater incentive for tax-free salary conversion is provided by doubling the employer’s contribution, in order to promote self-provision. Employees with a pensionable income below the contribution assessment limit benefit in particular from this measure.
