As a responsible employer, KfW is committed to diversity, equal opportunities and appreciation - and makes them a strategic principle. Diversity is not a trend. It is the foundation for long-term success.
Our society is becoming increasingly diverse - and this is precisely where the great opportunity lies. The task of Diversity Management at KfW is to make targeted use of this diversity. Those who incorporate diverse perspectives respond more swiftly, creatively and effectively to the complex challenges of our time – whether political, social, environmental or economic.
Against the backdrop of the growing importance of diversity, we at KfW have developed a strategic mission statement based on a clear vision:
KfW signed the Diversity Charter back in 2019. Since then, we have consistently worked on the basis of the seven dimensions of diversity - with the aim of anchoring them even more firmly in our corporate culture.
Diverse teams make better decisions because they approach challenges from different perspectives. In short, diversity is not only a contribution to an inclusive culture, but also the basis of a successful corporate culture.
You can't manage diversity without measuring. Key figures show whether good intentions actually have an effect. They show where we stand, where we need to improve and how we are performing compared to other companies. By measuring outcomes, we create transparency and accountability – this is how diversity evolves from mere lip service into a lived strategy. With our “Diversity” key figure,we look at all seven dimensions of diversity.
Our “Diversity” key figure combines quantitative and qualitative factors - from employee data such as age structure, gender distribution and staff turnover to internal stakeholder assessments, best practice examples or offers that facilitate work-life balance.
We work with an external organisation to bring all this information together on a scale of 0 to 100 to form a key figure. We currently have a score of 80 points, placing us among the top 25 of all participating companies.
At KfW, we pursue a wide range of measures to promote diversity in our workforce. These include, for example, employee networks, which are a central part of our culture and provide opportunities for exchange and support – ranging from the Rainbow network to networks for fathers, communities for individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, and groups for those with ADHD and autism spectrum disorder.
One important aspect of diversity and equal opportunities is fair remuneration. As part of the “Universal Fair Pay Check®” certification from the Fair Pay Innovation Lab, KfW has currently achieved “Fair Pay Analyst” status - we have comprehensively analysed our salary structures and identified potential wage gaps. In the next phase, we aim to become a “Fair Pay Developer”. We will implement targeted measures to close these gaps. We would like to emphasise that we see fair pay as the rule not the exception. In addition, we offer family-friendly solutions such as flexible part-time models, emergency care and our own kindergarten and day nursery to help achieve a positive work-life balance.
These and many other measures shape our culture - for more openness, transparency, individual strength and a strong sense of belonging. In this way, we create an environment in which every person feels valued and part of the whole.
