Infrastructure promotion for more climate protection and modernisation

In the priority promotional area of infrastructure, KfW promotes essential and future-oriented projects of public investors (municipalities, municipal enterprises and not-for-profit enterprises), such as energy efficiency and accessibility measures for public areas.

  • KfW uses federal budget funds to finance the new construction and rehabilitation of energy-efficient municipal and social infrastructure buildings, as well as investments in energy-efficient neighbourhood supply systems.
  • It also awards grants for the development of integrated neighbourhood concepts for energy-efficient refurbishment measures and implementation support by a refurbishment management team.
  • This means that KfW’s promotional programmes make a contribution to boosting energy efficiency in municipalities and support the climate protection targets set by the Federal Government.
