Education financing for further training and career advancement opportunities

Investments with a vision: today’s knowledge-based society requires broad-based access to lifelong education and further training. Financing also plays an important role in obtaining a university degree. KfW supports higher education with its KfW Student Loan, Education Loan and BAföG Bank Loan. It also promotes career advancement opportunities through the federal AFBG/Career advancement BAföG programme.

KfW’s programmes to support study and training

AFBG: more skilled workers thanks to vocational career advancement training

The AFBG promotional offering finances the following components:

  • training and examination fees,
  • material costs as part of a master apprenticeship project,
  • contribution to living costs taking family circumstances of participants into account.

The funds are made available in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and with the federal states via the regional authorities for the promotion of vocational training. Grants are awarded by the individual federal state authorities, while loans are granted by KfW.
