KfW inaugurates new office building at Bockenheimer Landstrasse 104
- Particularly low primary energy consumption
- Approx. 300 modern workstations in open space, covering six floors of office space
Today KfW celebrates with about 200 guests the inauguration of the new office building at Bockenheimer Landstrasse 104 in Frankfurt am Main, in the presence of city councillor Mike Josef, Professor Dr Gunter Henn from Henn Architekten and of the KfW Executive Board. The new building is approximately 24 metres high and has seven storeys as well as three underground floors with around 70 parking spaces; the total gross floor area is 10,600 square metres. Approximately 300 KfW employees will work there. The complex also features a bistro area, training rooms and language labs as well as lockers and employee showers for cyclists.
The building is characterised by a particularly low primary energy consumption of 100.3 kWh per square metre per year. "We had two objectives in the planning of the building: the best conditions for a modern working environment and special requirements for sustainability and energy efficiency. The promotion of environmental and climate protection is not only something we focus on in our business activities, but is also a key concern for us regarding our own buildings," says Dr Günther Bräunig, member of the KfW Group Executive Board. The architects Henn München, whose project won the tender issued by KfW, took over the planning of the building in 2011, and the topping-out ceremony was held in September 2014. The original KfW building from 1958 was demolished to make way for the new building because it did not meet the technical or the functional requirements of a modern, energy-efficient office environment.
The building now features communicative open-space structures over six floors that will provide more space for project and cooperation work. In the design, special attention was paid to the materials used to achieve improved room acoustics in addition to a modern design and flexibility. Acoustically effective wall cladding, floors and ceilings, as well as flexible modules (ceiling panels, partitions and ceiling-high, flexible span walls) provide a comfortable acoustic environment. Staff at all hierarchical levels who are working in KfW’s domestic promotional business units will move into the building. In the first floor KfW has established its Innovation Lab, in which KfW’s digital office will deal with the particular challenges of digitalisation and its importance for the promotional bank.
In the direct neighbourhood of the new office building, KfW is also currently renovating the property “Villa 102”, the former “Frankfurt House of Literature”, in line with monument conservation standards. It will be a place where culture meets business and also available for public use. The inauguration is scheduled for the third quarter of 2017.
