Digital technologies are gaining ground – also in terms of administrative structures. According to a UN study, e-governance is gaining in importance worldwide. Authorities and citizens have more and more opportunities to flexibly interact with one another, thereby strengthening democratic principles. However, digital technologies also run the risk of exacerbating social disparities. The current issue of Development in Brief addresses these benefits and challenges of e-governance.
