Final step in KfW’s promotional roadmap Heating system replacement subsidies implemented: digital submission of evidence now also available for municipal customers

As of today, 26 June 2025, KfW has implemented the final step of its promotional roadmap for heating system replacement subsidies as planned: From now on, municipalities that have received a grant commitment for the purchase and installation of climate-friendly heating systems in residential or non-residential buildings from KfW and that have already completed the measure can also submit the evidence required for verification and disbursement digitally in the promotional bank's online customer portal.

Through Meine KfW, all private, commercial and municipal customer groups thus now have access to a fully digital, largely automated online process for submitting applications and evidence, as well as for receiving approvals and review documents for heating system replacement subsidies.

The following applies in general: For all customers - be it corporate, private or municipal costumers - who have received a grant commitment from KfW to promote the replacement of their heating system, the promotional funds are firmly reserved with the commitment. They have 36 months from the commitment date to implement the measure. For the promotional funds to be disbursed following the completion of the measures implemented, the required evidence must be submitted to KfW digitally within six months of the date of the final invoice.

Once KfW has positively reviewed the supporting documents and the eligibility requirements, the grant is transferred to the customer's bank account. This usually takes place at the latest by the end of the month following the review of the evidence provided.

KfW began the gradual implementation of the heating system replacement subsidies roadmap on 27 February 2024. In 2024, it approved close to 227,000 applications with a total volume of EUR 3.3 billion. In the first quarter of 2025, around 88,000 further commitments with a total volume of EUR 1.2 billion were received. Heat pumps will account for around 80 percent of all commitments in 2025. Since the start of the evidence submission process at the end of September 2024, around 120,000 supporting documents had been submitted as of 31 March 2025 and disbursed by KfW.
