Slovakia must now change its course

Before it joined the euro area in 2009, Slovakia experienced strong growth and made significant rapid progress towards convergence thanks to comprehensive structural reforms. Now it needs to change its course again at many levels. With a view to the strengthened industrial sector, greater diversification would be beneficial. Promoting economic sectors that have higher value creation potential should also be made a higher priority. Another urgent task is to even out the remaining large regional imbalances.
