KfW IPEX-Bank in 2019

KfW IPEX-Bank is responsible for export and project finance within KfW Group. It supports German companies operating in key industrial sectors in global markets by structuring medium and long-term financing for German and European exports, infrastructure investments and securing raw materials supply, and by financing environmental and climate protection projects worldwide. As a specialist bank, KfW IPEX-Bank has extensive industry, structuring and country expertise. It takes on leading roles in financing consortia and actively involves other banks, institutional investors and insurance firms.

KfW IPEX-Bank reported another very successful financial year. Despite economic and political challenges in many regions of the world, the low interest rate environment and the constant pressure on banks and institutional investors to invest, in 2019 KfW IPEX-Bank again very successfully fulfilled KfW’s legal mandate to support German and European exporters in global markets.

KfW IPEX-Bank's focus last financial year was on supporting long-term existing customers as well as borrowers with good credit ratings, and on structuring well-collateralised financing. In most cases, it acted as part of financing consortia with other national and international banks. It provided financing totalling EUR 22.1 billion in 2019. Of this amount, EUR 18.6 billion (2018: EUR 17 billion) was attributable to original lending business and EUR 3.5 billion (2018: EUR 0.7 billion) to bank refinancing under the CIRR ship and ERP export financing schemes.

KfW IPEX-Bank financed numerous complex projects worldwide in the past financial year, with the focus primarily on energy and environmental projects, infrastructure measures, projects to secure raw materials supply in the long term and projects with a share of exports originating from Germany or Europe.
