Awards for outstanding financing

Financings in which KfW IPEX-Bank has participated – in a leading role in some cases – are regularly recognised as deals of the year by the relevant international trade press.

For example, project financing of the Melbourne Metro expansion in Melbourne, Australia, a PPP project with total investment volume of around AUD 6 billion (approx. EUR 4 billion), was named the “Asia Pacific Infra Deal of the Year 2017” by the renowned Project Finance International (PFI) magazine. Moreover, the juries of PFI and the GTR Global Trade Review trade magazine both selected the financing of the Swedish wind farm Markbygden ETT out of several hundred submissions as “Wind Deal of the Year”. With a total output of 650 megawatts, the project will be Europe's largest connected onshore wind farm, expanding Sweden's installed wind power basis by 12.5 percent. Together with three other banks, KfW IPEX-Bank is providing almost EUR 500 million in long-term debt financing to the project, whose total investment costs amount to around EUR 800 million.

The financing of two reduced-emission cruise ships for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) beat the competition for Global Transport Finance (GTF) trade magazine's “Cruise Ship of the Year 2017” award. An international consortium led by KfW IPEX-Bank provided the debt capital required of over EUR 2.5 billion to purchase the ships, which were built in Finland's Meyer Turku shipyard. The ships, each with a passenger capacity of over 5,500, will normally run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), thereby considerably reducing harmful emissions.

These and other awards offer impressive proof of KfW IPEX-Bank's outstanding ability to structure complex project and export financing compared to international competitors, and thus document its performance.
