KfW childcare centre celebrates its 45th anniversary
- Measure for reconciling work and family life
- Kindergarten and after-schoolcare for 45 children
- Healthy nutrition is a focus in 2018
The KfW childcare centre at Schumannstrasse 67 celebrates its 45th anniversary today. In 1973, the first in-house kindergarten in the Frankfurt banking industry was founded near KfW's Head Office at the Bockenheimer Warte site. Then, as today, the full-time childcare service programme for our employees' children was intended as a measure to help reconcile work and family life. Today, the childcare centre is used by both mothers and fathers from all hierarchy levels and departments at KfW and KfW IPEX-Bank.
“As a bank committed to responsibility, KfW has sought to establish family-oriented personnel policies for many years. We support our employees with a comprehensive childcare service programme as they manage the balancing act between family and work life,” said Dr Günther Bräunig, Chief Executive Officer of KfW. “Flexible working hours in today's working life require flexible care offers. The right work-life balance is playing an ever-increasing role in employees' various life phases,” he continued.
KfW's childcare centre currently has the capacity to care for 45 children. It also offers after-school care for primary school children in addition to the kindergarten. In total, seven professional educators look after the children's well-being. The KfW childcare centre continues to offer much longer hours than many other facilities (Mon.–Thurs.: 7:45 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Fri.: 7:45 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) and fewer closing times. Parents can thus easily adjust the time their children spend in childcare to their own everyday work schedules.
The KfW childcare centre is focusing on healthy nutrition in 2018. The children's activities have included planting a vegetable and herb garden, making pumpkin or tomato soups themselves, and making desserts like apple sauce every two weeks. This teaches them at a young age what healthy, seasonal and sustainable nutrition means and what it tastes like. All points are also reflected in the KfW childcare centre's new nutrition concept, which was developed by the childcare team.
