Press Release from 2016-01-07 / Group

Application phase for the 2016 KfW Award for Construction and Housing is entering the final stage

  • Application phase ends 7 March 2016
  • Total prize money of EUR 30,000 for the winners
  • This year’s topic: “Urban living – houses in the city”

Submissions for this year’s KfW Award for Construction and Housing must be postmarked no later than 7 March 2016. Private builders or joint building ventures who have built or modernised an inner-city or city centre building with at least three housing units in the last five years can submit their applications up until that date. The projects are assessed based on the balance between modern design, energy and cost efficiency, the optimal usage of rooms and space and their individual comfort.

“More and more people are drawn to the cities today – the elderly, singles and even families too. The created living space has to meet many criteria: it has to be affordable and energy-efficient, to fit in well with urban landscape and be suitable for life in the community. This is precisely why we want to award prizes for objects that fulfil very different criteria at the same time,” explains Dr Ingrid Hengster, member of KfW Group’s Executive Board.

The prize money for the KfW Award totals EUR 30,000. The first five winners together receive a total of EUR 25,000, and the other five best-ranking projects receive prize money of EUR 1,000 each. The awards ceremony will take place on 23 June 2016 at KfW’s Berlin offices.
