KfW-ifo SME Barometer August 2026
Big bang – and potentially a breakthrough
The SME business climate improved again significantly in August, rising by a substantial 4.5 points to -12.5 points. For the second time in a row, both the assessment of the current situation and business expectations are contributing to the improvement in sentiment. It is above all the manufacturing sector and wholesale trade that are expressing greater optimism. Both apparently benefit from a strongly expanding export business.
