The energy transition is regaining momentum: households’ willingness to act themselves has risen – from 59% in the previous year to 66% now. The technology ramp-up is also progressing: around 14 million households, or 34%, use at least one green technology. Around 1.1 million households adopted one for the first time in the past year. Rooftop photovoltaics and electric vehicles are growing fast. By now, 53% of households have access to green electricity – up from 47% in the previous year.

Whether households participate in the transformation depends on income and housing tenure type: in the top income quartile, 51% use at least one green technology, in the bottom quartile 20%; in owner-occupied detached and semi-detached houses it is 59%, in rented flats 15%. For the transformation to reach all households, cost-effectiveness, targeted investment support and suitable information services remain decisive.
