Start-up activity in economically uncertain times: now better than expected but still (too) low
Start-up activity in Germany grew moderately again in 2024 but remains in a sideways trend on a low level. An increasingly larger share of start-ups is part-time. Start-up activity is also a reflection of the megatrends. It highlights the skilled labour shortage, demographic ageing and digitalisation trends. But start-up potentials exist and can be leveraged. Younger people have a stronger-than-average entrepreneurial spirit. Financial literacy appears to play an important role in unleashing entrepreneurial spirit.
