The rise of artificial intelligence: what does it mean for developing countries and emerging economies?
Development in Brief
For several years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been regarded as both a blessing and a curse. AI is often used as a collective term to describe increasing automation in many sectors of the economy and management. There is major potential to use AI in developing countries and emerging economies. In traffic planning and management, healthcare, and disaster prevention and management in particular, it can be used to automatically structure and analyse large amounts of data, use them to generate forecasts and quickly — even in real time — respond to changes.
The current edition of Development in Brief explains how AI works and talks about how developing countries and emerging economies can benefit from the technology.
