Why are German firms reluctant to invest in Africa?
There is hardly a German firm to be found between Cairo and Johannesburg. Firms from the other major industrialised nations (France, Great Britain and the US) are spread out across more regions. A shared language and cultural proximity through the African Diaspora are major reasons for this. This paper looks at active companies and addresses economic structures as further factors that explain the low level of German private sector investment in Africa.
