Oil prices and bond yields – hand-in-hand again
We examine the correlation between the price of crude oil and yields on 10-year US Treasury bonds over time. A strengthening positive correlation is evident for the year 2017, with both the oil price and yields falling from March to June. Bond yields have probably been driven by falling economic expectations, but the oil price also by developments on the supply side of the crude oil market.
