Germany's SMEs after US election and before Brexit: keep markets open!
Germany's SMEs in particular have much to gain from the free movement of workers in the EU as almost 6 % of their employees are non-German EU citizens. The current success of anti-immigration parties in Europe is therefore unsettling SMEs that conduct international business. In the latest special survey conducted by the KfW SME Panel, these firms stressed the great importance of labour mobility within the EU. Under the impression of the looming Brexit, it is particularly the SMEs with business operations in the United Kingdom that call for open labour markets in Europe.
