Peru – a promising economy
Peru has a strong economy and made good progress in reducing poverty. The country has a well-functioning banking system, while the capital market plays only a minor role. The still substantial dollarization of the financial system is seen as a major weakness, even if significant progress has been made in using the national currency for deposits and lending. Although the rising level of private sector external debt has to be monitored, a further development of the financial system focused on stability is indicated.
