Germany’s demographic trap – integrating refugees is only part of the solution

In the 2020s at the latest, Germany’s growth potential will be under considerable downward pressure from the ageing and shrinking of its population. Only a broad economic-policy strategy can effectively stop the decline. However, its success will not only depend on considerable efforts in integrating refugees. Implementing ambitious general economic policy measures for increasing labour market participation, investment and productivity will also be crucial.
