Spain: political uncertainty overshadows good economic outlook

Spain’s economy is on a very good course and exhibits clear progress in managing the legacy of the crisis. Nevertheless, much remains to be done as shown by, most notably, the example of the continuing very high unemployment rate. However, political imponderables are creating uncertainty. Parliamentary elections will be held on 20 December. The new Spanish government will have to quickly find a pragmatic response to the Catalan independence movement.
