World trade with interesting but alarming trends

The development in world trade impressively documents the fact that developing and industrialising countries are becoming more competitive and that Germany enjoys a strong position as an exporting country. The current slowdown in world trade may primarily be due to the economic crisis in the eurozone. Nonetheless, trends in trade policy (regionalism as opposed to multilateralism) over the last few years are somewhat alarming.
