Grant product to promote new charging stations for electric vehicles in residential buildings available from 24 November

  • EUR 900 investment grant for each charging point installed
  • Applications can be submitted on KfW Grant Portal

On 24 November, the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and KfW launched the promotional product for the construction of new charging stations for electric cars in areas of residential buildings not accessible to the general public. Investors receive a grant of EUR 900 per charging point to acquire and install new charging stations, and connect them to the electricity grid. The aim of the funding is to motivate private individuals to switch to electric-powered vehicles and give them sufficient private charging infrastructure. In order to receive the funds, the electricity used for the charging process must come from 100% renewable sources. This can be obtained via an appropriate electricity supply contract and/or generated from independent, on-site sources (e.g. from a photovoltaic system).

Eligible applicants include private individuals, condominium associations, housing companies, housing co-operatives and building developers. Applications for the grant must be submitted on the KfW Grant Portal before the start of the project. For work to commence, it is essential for a binding order to have been placed for the charging station or for an appropriate delivery and service contract to have been concluded. Funds will be disbursed after work is completed and invoices are provided from the specialist company tasked with its implementation.
