KfW Business Cycle Compass Germany May 2019

Germany's economy got off to a surprisingly good start to the year 2019, but the outlook has deteriorated. Significantly fewer orders and subdued business confidence forebode only weak growth in the second quarter before momentum picks up again. Overall, KfW Research stands by its forecast of 0.8% growth for 2019 and 1.8% for 2020. The renewed postponement of Brexit and simmering global trade conflicts pose significant downward risks, putting particular pressure on export-dependent German manufacturers.
