Content accessibility

Our aim is to make www.kfw.de as accessible as possible for all users.

We follow the international Guidelines WCAG 1.0 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and WCAG 2.0 of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) as well as the BITV (Barrierefreie Informationstechnik-Verordnung, the German "Ordinance on the Creation of Barrier-Free Information Technology"), particularly the criteria of the BITV Test, a testing procedure for assessing the accessibility of Web content.

We take care that our Web content conforms to the standards adopted by W3C in order to assure good quality and usability with as many operating systems, browsers, assistive technology and mobile devices as possible, including mobile phones. We check the source code of our websites prior to publication with the aid of the W3C validator.

PDFs

Not all PDFs on our Website are currently accessible.

However, we intend to offer new, accessible PDFs, such as the Annual Reports we have published since the end of 2007. All accessible PDFs are identified as such.

We generally seek to provide our information in HTML format where possible.

Font size

You can set the font size quickly and easily to suit your needs using the corresponding feature of your browser.

Windows

  • Using Internet Explorer: Select the "Tools" button at the top of your browser's menu bar. Now click on "Zoom" and choose between "Zoom in" or "Zoom out" or define a user-defined zoom under "Custom". You can also enlarge or reduce several times. Alternatively, press the key combination Ctrl + or Ctrl -.
  • Using Firefox: Click on "Zoom" in the menu bar of your browser and choose between "Zoom in" or "Zoom out". You can also zoom in or out several times. Alternatively, press the key combination Ctrl + or Ctrl -.
  • Using Chrome: Select the settings of your browser from the menu bar at the top. Under the section "Appearance" you will now find the option "Page zoom", where you can choose between several zoom sizes. Alternatively, you can press the key combination Ctrl + or Ctrl -.

MacOs

  • Using Firefox: Click on "View / Zoom" in the menu bar of your browser and choose between "Zoom in" or "Zoom out". You can also zoom in or out several times. Alternatively, press the Apple key + or Apple key - key combination.
  • Using Chrome: Click on "View" in the menu bar of your browser and choose between "Zoom in" or "Zoom out". You can also enlarge or reduce several times. Alternatively, press the Apple key + or Apple key - key combination.

Colours

In presenting documents on screen we take care that all font and page colours meet the contrast requirements of the BITV Test.

Users with low vision who need stronger contrasts can set their own colours in their browser.

Windows

  • Using Internet Explorer: Select "Tools / Internet Options" from the menu bar at the top of your browser and click the "Colors" button on the "General" tab. Deactivate the checkbox "Use Windows colors", select your desired colors and confirm with "OK". Then click on the "Accessibility" button and activate the checkbox "Ignore color specifications on webpages" and confirm with "OK".
  • Using Firefox: Select "Options" in the menu bar of your browser, click in the section "Language and Appearance" the button "Colors" and select your desired colors. Select the option "Always" in the drop-down menu "Override the colors specified by the page with your selections above" and confirm your changes with "OK".
  • Using Chrome: Select “Settings” in the menu bar of your browser. You will now find the "Themes" option under the "Appearance" section. By clicking on this option you will get to the "Chrome Web Store" in an extra page window, which provides you with a selection of different designs. Then select one of the designs and click the "Add to Chrome" button to use the new design.

MacOS

All web content of www.kfw.de will remain readable even with user-customised colour settings.

All content and functions at www.kfw.de are accessible without using your mouse.

This is how it works: move from link to link by pressing the tab key repeatedly. Each link you hit will be highlighted visually. To activate a selected link press Enter.

Using screen readers

We are very intent on making the Web content of www.kfw.de as easy to use with screen readers as possible.

For example, all images carry informative alternative text, and we structure the pages of our Web content with headings and highlight words in German so that they can be pronounced correctly by your voice application.
