Content accessibility

Our aim is to make kfw.de as accessible as possible for all users.

We follow the international Guidelines WCAG 1.0 and WCAG 2.0 of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) as well as the BITV ( Barrierefreie Informationstechnik-Verordnung , the German "Ordinance on the Creation of Barrier-Free Information Technology"), particularly the criteria of the BITV Test, a testing procedure for assessing the accessibility of Web content.

Web standards compliance

We take care that our Web content conforms to the standards adopted by W3C in order to assure good quality and usability with as many operating systems, browsers, assistive technology and mobile devices as possible, including mobile phones and PDAs. We check the source code of our websites prior to publication with the aid of the W3C validator.

PDFs

Not all PDFs on our Website are currently accessible.

However, we intend to offer new, accessible PDFs, such as the Annual Reports we have published since the end of 2007. All accessible PDFs are identified as such.

We generally seek to provide our information in HTML format where possible.

Font size

You can set the font size quickly and easily to suit your needs using the corresponding feature of your browser.

  • Using Internet Explorer: In the Menu Bar of your browser click on "View > Text Size" and select "Largest", "Larger", Medium", "Smaller" or "Smallest".
  • Using Firefox: In the Navigation Toolbar of your browser click on "View > Zoom" and select "Zoom In" or "Zoom Out". You can zoom in or out repeatedly, or use the key combination Ctrl++ or Ctrl+-.

Colours

In presenting documents on screen we take care that all font and page colours meet the contrast requirements of the BITV Test.

Users with low vision who need stronger contrasts can set their own colours in their browser.

  • In Internet Explorer: In the Menu Bar of your browser click on "Tools > Internet Options" and select the tab "General", then open the button "Colours". Unselect the checkbox "Use Windows colours", choose your preferred colours and click "OK" to apply. Then click on the button "Accessibility" and select the checkbox "Ignore colours specified on webpages".
  • In Firefox: In the Menu Bar of your browser click on "Tools > Options", select the tab "Content", click on the button "Colours" and choose your preferred colours. Then unselect the checkbox "Allow pages to choose their own colours, instead of my selections above".

All web content of kfw.de will remain readable even with user-customised colour settings.

Keyboard accessibility

All content and functions at kfw.de are accessible without using your mouse.

This is how it works: move from link to link by pressing the tab key repeatedly. Each link you hit will be highlighted visually. To activate a selected link press Enter.

Using screen readers

We are very intent on making the Web content of kfw.de as easy to use with screen readers as possible.

For example, all images carry informative alternative text, and we structure the pages of our Web content with headings and highlight words in German so that they can be pronounced correctly by your voice application.
