Research
The Economics Department is responsible for the observation and analysis of the macroeconomic conditions and current trends affecting all activities of KfW Bankengruppe. Its functions range from the assessment and forecast of economic trends - particularly for the German Mittelstand - through the monitoring of trends in the capital markets to the analysis of selected development economics issues.
- The department designs specific economic indicators in order to early detect changes in the economic environment that affect SMEs and the housing sector and to occupy new fields of promotional business in a timely manner.
- It closely observes and analyses start-up, SME, private equity and innovation finance as well as municipal finance and examines the structural impacts of the promotional programmes.
- Of particular importance for the work of KfW Bankengruppe is the study of sustainability issues, particularly in relation to environmental, climate and resource protection, urban development, infrastructure, education and environmental innovation.
- The evaluation of KfW's financing programmes helps to assure the high quality and continuing development of the promotional business.
