Inflation in Germany rises only briefly above two per cent
In January, Germany's inflation rate climbed to almost 2 % for the first time since mid-2013. The rise was mostly due to the development of the crude oil price. And as the upward trend of the oil price is not expected to continue, the inflation rate will soon drop again. Nevertheless, it can be stated that, all in all, German inflation is in a process of normalisation. At the same time, the ECB will not respond to this because it does not manage inflation of a single country but of the euro area as a whole. There, prices are still rising much more slowly than in Germany.
